GigaScienceがCRediT準拠のAuthor Contributorship Badgesを採用

ちょっと前のニュースだけど、BioMed Centralのオープンアクセスオープンデータジャーナル（直訳だけど不思議な単語だ）「GigaScience」が、論文著者の貢献を示すバッヂ（Author Contributorship Badges）をパイロット的に導入したらしい。

この取り組みの背景にあるのは、著者順のような従来の方法では限界があるという問題。

Conventions around author order often mean that key contributors to research are either left off the author list entirely, or given a position that provides no real “credit” in the grant-awarding/career ladder ecosystem.

後半に書いてあるのは、著者順では例えば誰がグラントの獲得に貢献したのかは分からないということだろう。

バッヂがどういうものかは実例を見るのが早い。

ここで著者名にカーソルを合わせるとORCID iDも表示されるようになっている。論文が出版される→バッヂを選択するよう著者にメールが届く→論文ページとORCIDのページにバッヂが表示される、という流れになるらしい。

肝心のポイントは、このバッヂの種類が、CASRAIがCRediTプロジェクトで標準化を進めているタクソノミーに準拠しているという点である。このタクソノミーの実装は初めて（These badges represent the first implementation of this taxonomy for more transparent author credit.）と書いてあるけど、Editorial Managerは……？

なお、バッヂという手法を採用した理由については、

We’re keen to see whether Author Contributorship Badges could make an impact in academic research, in the same way as they have worked in other industries and by other organisations such as NASA, Disney, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. A number of organisations have been using the Badge infrastructure for internal professional development and for undergraduate career and learning progression.

という箇所に伺える。
